Expand Your Love: Qigong for Emotional Support for Self and Others

This four-week online event April 13th – May 4, replaces the self-renewal day retreats I advertised in my last newsletter. Since we can’t gather physically I invite you to join me in this online version with a focus to help ourselves and send positive, healing vitality to our loved ones and the world. Together we can generate the much needed calm and perspective that our families, our communities and our world needs. It begins at home within our own hearts.
Qigong is uniquely suited to support emotional balance. The movement, awareness and symbolic thinking, inherent in qigong practice, can clear both body and mind of habitual patterns of physical and emotional tension that can tie us in knots. Once we release the hold these internal states have on us, we feel calmer, have more perceptive, feel less overwhelmed, and can settle deeper into our bodies and our being where true knowing resides.
I love using qigong movement, metaphor and meditation to reframe my experience, transform my mood and perceive outside of the box. These methods are very popular in my qigong classes, and I hope an online experience will translate into a feeling of connection with self and each other and give a new way to find emotional balance during this unusual time we find ourselves in.
Week One: This class will focus on learning the qigong we’ll do for the rest of the series. This includes five-element shaking with a focus on healing sounds and colors and Tian Dao Shen Ming Gong, a flowing form designed to open the spine, massage the body with fluid movements and brighten our inner light and awareness. We will practice for ourselves and others we want to send healing energy to. Everyone is invited to join in and see if you resonate with this style and focus. After week one no one new will be allowed into the practice circle. This creates safety which helps us look more deeply into what’s coming up for us emotionally and sharing that with each other. Class will be recorded so you can practice on your own.
Week Two: Brief introduction to a classic theory of self and heartmind. Bring awareness to emotional tension via five element qigong shaking, sound and color, combined with emotional awareness as indicated in the five element body-mind map. Heart circle meditation for integration by connecting with our inner source of love and presence. Brief journal writing and sharing.
Week Three: Focus on emotional and life balance by strengthening our intent to clear blocks that keep us from recognizing and receiving the nourishment around and inside us. We’ll practice Tian Dao Shen Ming Gong as a symbolic dance that informs our “knowing.” Heart circle meditation. Brief journal writing and sharing.
Week Four: Focus on consciously expanding the periphery of our love by practicing not only for ourselves but also for our loved ones and the world. We will review all the movements we’ve done and meditate together. Final sharing.
